Mia Cahill
Well-known for her creative solutions in mediation, negotiation and collaborative law, and thinking out of the box, Mia came to private law practice from academia and public policy. She received her law degree from the University of Denver and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. She is admitted to the State Bar of New Jersey and was formerly a member of the Wisconsin Bar where she served on the Women in the Profession committee.
She formerly worked at the Institute for Law and Society (at NYU), was a Hewlett Fellow for Dispute Resolution (at the University of Wisconsin Law School), taught courses on women’s rights at the workplace (at Rutgers), sexual harassment and law and social policy (at NYU).

Mia
She has contributed to several books and publications including How Law Matters, the Diffusion of Social Problems and the Women in Crisis Handbook of the United Nation’s Women’s Guild, among others. She published an academic book on sexual harassment, before turning her attention to the private practice of law and litigation.
She is strategic and no-holds-barred when litigating on behalf of her clients, especially when they are being treated unfairly. But she knows how to take advantage of two facts: 1. most cases settle, and 2. in real life, clients are so much more satisfied with their outcomes when they have a front row seat in crafting an agreement that is right for them and their family.
She is a qualified mediator under New Jersey Court Rule 1:40, where she was first on the approved mediator list in 2003. She works as a neutral mediator, for private clients, or for post-ESP mediation, and is often chosen by professional colleagues with difficult cases. She was a founder of the Mid-Jersey Collaborative Alliance, the Central New Jersey collaborative divorce group, and served on the first board helping to create the association by-laws and membership requirements.
She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Princeton Bar Association, the Mercer County Bar Association, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, IACP, New Jersey Collaborative Divorce, the Mid-Jersey Collaborative Alliance, the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators, and named a Super Lawyer, chosen in the process that considers peer recognition and professional achievement.
She currently serves as a member of the Princeton Recreation Commission, and was elected twice as a Princeton Public School board member. She is a former trustee of the Women in Profession Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association (and is a current member of the section), and she is a former trustee of the Princeton Educational Foundation (PEF) and was honoree of the Tribute to Women award of the YWCA of Princeton.
Mia is an avid pickleball player and training to be certified pickleball referee with USA Pickleball. She enjoys every kind of science fiction story, traveling with her husband, and pestering her adult children.
